Morning! The weather is warming up and there is a jam-packed weekend of events. It’s going to be a great few days to get out of the house and have some fun. We got something for everyone in this week’s edition!
Have you attended an event that we've posted about?

You Gotta Check This Out
I came across a neat event over the weekend that is such a great idea. It’s called Camp Foreword and it’s a reading retreat. The premise is super simple - a getaway for 3 days in the Laurel Highlands where the main activity is reading. This post does a great job showing last year’s event.
It’s definitely reading-centric, but they also host other activities over the 3 days. It’s completely up to you how you spend your time. If all you want to do is read for 3 days, have at it. The tickets include 8 meals as well.
The bummer is that it went viral and they sold out their last batch of tickets super quickly. So if you’re interested, you’ll have to join the waitlist. It’s November 5th-8th so there’s time in there where it’s likely that there would be some cancellations. I’d highly recommend it if you’re into this sort of thing.
This was just too cool an event for me not to include. From what I’ve heard from some of you, it sounded right up the alley of a lot of our readers. If you want to get on the waitlist, click here.

Restaurant Spotlight
Last Friday we went and checked out a taco spot that we had been hearing a lot about - TA’CON Todo Taqueria. I’m always on the hunt for authentic street tacos. And if you’re an aficionado like me, you know that they’re really hard to find.
We got 3 of the carne asada tacos, 2 pastor, and 1 pollo. The meat was marinated and cooked perfectly. It was the right amount of spice and flavor. The corn tortillas were warmed exactly how they should be. Sometimes places steam them but these were done on the grill. Steaming them makes them almost sponge-y.
They also have a salsa/toppings bar so you can add whatever toppings or salsa you want. It’s a choose-your-own-adventure in that way. Every salsa was amazing and bursting with flavor.
If you want to support a local restaurant and you love tacos, then you gotta check them out. They’re 4.8 stars on Google for a reason.

The Photo Desk
2 things stood out to me when I first saw this photo. The first is the passenger and no railings. Hand in the air, I’m scared to get on the Monongahela Incline now. No chance I would’ve gotten on it in the 1880’s when this photo was taken.
The 2nd is there is a surprising lack of trees around it. I sometimes forget how barren Pittsburgh was at one point. I much prefer our lush, tree-filled hills.

North Park Observation Tower Restoration Project Nearing Funding Goal
The scenic lookout point in North Park is only $20,000 away from being able to kick off its restoration project. It would include a new parking lot, native plant meadow, walking paths, and seating areas. It used to be a popular spot to hangout in the warm months and leaf peef in the fall. Now, with this funding, the next generation may be able to enjoy it in its former glory. Read more about the plan.
