Happy Tuesday! I heard lots of stories from people who checked out the 412 Day festivities this past weekend. Our city sure knows how to throw events! I’d love to know if you checked anything out on Sunday. There were small events on top of the main ones throughout the city.

MICHELIN Guide Is Coming to Pittsburgh
Pretty cool news this week came out from the MICHELIN Guide that they’re going to be expanding to the Great Lakes. Learning recently how many of us are foodies, this felt like news that MUST be shared. In total, MICHELIN will be expanding to 6 cities in the Great Lakes region - Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, and Milwaukee.
I went back and forth on if I should make this a short blurb in The Bulletin or if it really should be the main story for the week. But this is big news. This is the sort of thing that fills me with a lot of pride for our city and our skilled chefs who are about to be put on the map.
There’s a whole subculture around the MICHELIN Guide. People travel the world just to eat at MICHELIN restaurants or stay at rated hotels. And chefs devote their careers to get even a single star.
The anonymous Inspectors have already started scoping things out and eating at local spots. The results are set to come out in 2027 but an exact date hasn’t yet been announced.
I know there are definitely mixed feelings about an influx of people coming in with the NFL Draft next week. And sometimes it feels like our city doesn’t quite have the infrastructure to handle us. But I think any time people who are really good at their craft can be highlighted, it’s an awesome opportunity.
I’ve eaten at my fair share of places around the country and Pittsburgh is home to some of the best food I’ve had anywhere. I think it’s something about the deep roots this city has. The pride that goes into the food when you’re cooking recipes that have been in your family for generations. So it’s exciting that there will be chefs from our city who will get to be showcased and have people travel from all over to try their food. I know for a fact that the city will support them as well.

Sometimes I see pictures and I’m like “Wow, we really are the Paris of Appalachia”. This is one of those instances. I love a great spring sunset.

Mangia Featuring DeLallo Opens in Greensburg
This new Italian spot in the Live! Casino recently opened and is getting rave reviews from everyone. It’s a cafe and market within the casino. So you can stop in for a quick meal or just drop in to pick up some essentials for your pantry. They’re well stocked and are about as authentic as you can be. I keep hearing their cannoli dip is 10/10. You can see their menu here.
Pitt Students Advocating For A Safer Bates Street
Pitt students from the Complete Streets at Pitt and Urban Planning Club took a count of all of the cars, bikes, and pedestrians on March 20th and 27th at the Bates Street and Semple Street Intersection. The data and patterns that they observed are going to be used to try and get funding to make improvements to that intersection. I love seeing a grassroots campaign come together. You can read the full profile here.

The Cat Report

Cypress the garden cat
Little bit of a different type of post this week. We found out last week that our cat, Cypress, has lung cancer. It has been a rough week as we try and figure out the best path forward for her. She’s such a special cat that we love dearly so I wanted to show her off in all her glory. This was her helping us garden last spring. Hold your cats extra tight for us.
