Well, it’s Draft Week…how are we all feeling? On one hand, I’m thrilled about the attention our city is getting. It’s cool to see people enjoying it who wouldn’t otherwise visit here. On the other, holy traffic. I’ll be very careful with how I get to/from the events this week. I’m curious, how are yinz feeling about the draft?
I came across this post on Instagram that sums up how I feel about it all pretty well.
How are you feeling about the NFL Draft this week?

Arts Landing Downtown Is Coming This Summer
The investment in Downtown continues! This past Friday, there was a ribbon cutting at the new Arts Landing that will be officially opening in June.
If you haven’t yet heard about what’s going on with this project, it’s a 4 acre spot between 8th and 9th street on Penn Ave. It’s meant to be an outdoor artistic/cultural hub for the city. The summer activity plan is chock full of really cool events. They’ve got Salsa nights (dancing, not the food), movie nights, Family Fest, Gallery Crawls, JazzLive, fitness classes, food trucks, and Pickleball. Pretty much about anything you could want out of an outdoor venue.
Throughout Arts Landing there are different spaces for different activities. At the heart, you have the Great Lawn and Bandshell. This open green space is where the live music and events will be held.
Then you’ve got the Garden Walk. This is on 8th street between Penn Ave and Fort Duquesne Boulevard. It’s a lush garden area where people can take in nature while being in the heart of the city. For anyone who works downtown, this would be a great spot for an afternoon break in the summer.
There’s a little something for everyone here with the Play Room. This is meant to be the playground area. But they’ve turned the typical playground on it’s head. Instead of normal run-of-the-mill toys, these look like art installations while also being a blast for the kiddos. It’s a really cool take on a playground. It makes me wish I was a kid again. Will you find me on the slide in the near future? Maybe…
The next area is the Backyard. It really lives up to its name. Think of a great hangout spot that has seating areas, picnic tables, games, and open space for events and of course food trucks!
The last section is the Flex Zone. When fully completed (this summer) it will have 30,000 square feet of activity space. That includes 3 pickleball courts and a small track for walking and running. Maybe a pickleball club is in order.
The official grand opening will be the Three Rivers Arts Festival June 5th. I’ll of course add that to the events list before that so you have the reminder. In the grand scheme of bringing the city together and creating spaces for people to enjoy, this feels like it checks all the boxes.
If you want to read more about it, you can check out the website here. I’ve also got the link to the short video that sums it all up.

The Photo Desk
Who else is excited that the fountain is back up and running? The vibes of this picture are immaculate. The dramatic water, a sky that looks like it might be on fire, and then a perfect rainbow. Well done!

The Bulletin
Frick Environmental Center Launches Its Trackchair Program
This is a really cool development for Frick Park. If you’ve ever tried to push a wheelchair at a park, you know how difficult it can be. This rental program makes the park far more accessible for everyone. If you have anyone in your family with limited mobility, you should really check this out. The response has been fantastic so far. You can read more about the program here.
PA Giving Away Free Native Meadow Seed Kits
The DCNR is giving away 300 seed kits to help residents turn their lawns or yards into native habitats that support our local pollinators. Each region of the state gets 100 kits given away. If you’d like to register to enter to get a free kit, you can learn more here.
Pokemon Card Donations
A local has started a nonprofit that takes people’s duplicate or extra Pokemon cards and then donates them to children in hospitals and underserved communities. A little bit of joy can go a long way. And a cool new Pokemon card is a great way to put a smile on a kids face. If you’d like to support, you can check out their website here.

The Cat Report

Basil from Nose 2 Tail Cat Rescue
This senior girl is looking for her next home after her owner passed away a couple months ago. She was really shy at first but she’s now starting to blossom as she’s made new friends. Her right ear is deformed from a real bad ear mite infection. It’s all cleared up now and she’s feeling much better. She’d love to find her new forever home. You can read more about her here.
See Yinz next Tuesday
