Morning! I hope everyone had a great weekend and an even better start to their week. It was a fantastic weekend to be out in the garden. We tried to make the most of it, and I hope you did too!
I came across a local, Amy, who just launched a Mahjong community called Yinz Mahj. I’ve never played in person, only on my phone, but I’m adding it to my list to check out. You can check out their events here.
It got me thinking about in-person events. In the grand scheme of building community, I’d like for us to be able to host events in due time. Let me know what sounds most interesting to you!

Allegheny Riverfront Park Gets An Upgrade
When I see photos or videos posted online of people visiting Pittsburgh, it’s usually one of them leaving the Fort Pitt Tunnel and seeing the skyline, or it’s of the rivers. I think we can all agree that while we definitely wouldn’t swim in them, they are a large part of what makes our landscape and views so unique.
I love that the city is leaning into the riverfront being a major feature of our city. The latest project being the completion of the Upper Promenade at Allegheny Riverfront Park along Fort Duquesne Boulevard.
This area was previously just a normal sidewalk that was falling apart. Now the area has been widened with bluestone to make it more of an experiential area. 35 trees, street lights, railings, and seating have all been added to make the area far more appealing than it was before. It’s now a space that’s actually meant to be enjoyed.
The timing makes sense since we’re only a couple weeks away from the NFL Draft. Lots of visitors coming to town so it’s great to see us putting our best foot forward. But this is something that we can actually continue to enjoy for many nice days to come. Not just a flash in the pan because of the draft.
If you haven’t been able to check it out, you should soon now that the weather is starting to warm up. It’s only a couple blocks from De Fer so it would be a great morning coffee or tea walk. I like to find areas on weekends where I get to look around and really appreciate living here. I think I’ll be adding this new spot to my list.

Weekend Weather
I think we should be honest with each other. Did anyone turn their ACs on this weekend? I was very close. My no AC before May pride held for the time being. If you had to do it, I don’t blame you. It was a warm one. This Sunday is going to test me…
Friday: 🌤️ 76° Hi / 47° Lo | 💧 13% chance of rain | 💨 13 mph wind
Saturday: 🌤️ 67° Hi / 46° Lo | 💧 20% chance of rain | 💨 7 mph wind
Sunday: 🌤️ 80° Hi / 64° Lo | 💧 9% chance of rain | 💨 10 mph wind

The Photo Desk
I see pictures like this and feel pretty dang thankful that I get to live in a place with these views. I also am just constantly in awe of how many great photographers we have in this city.

The Bulletin
Pittsburgh Receives $600k in Donations to Improve Local Baseball Fields
I’m sure most of us have memories tied to Little League Baseball/Softball. Whether it’s playing, coaching/watching our kids, or watching grandkids, it’s something we can think fondly of. Not to mention the fun the kids have playing. For them to have high quality fields is everything. $300k is going to update scoreboards and another $300k to a leveling system similar to what’s used at PNC Park. It’ll help the city be more efficient at removing holes and improving drainage. Fewer twisted ankles, less “flood outs”, and just better fields for our kids.
Pittsburgh’s Downtown From The American Revolution to Today
I just thought this was too cool not to share. I’m a big history buff and seeing transformations of cities over time is so fascinating. I found this YouTube video that shows a map of the city from the 1760s with a timelapse to present day’s satellite view. If you like this kind of stuff, you can see the short video here.
Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Getting Its Own Youtube Channel
This news headline hit me in the nostalgia when I saw it over the weekend. I grew up on Mister Rogers as I’m sure many of you did. Running for 33 years on PBS it transcended generations. We don’t have much like that where you can share that nostalgia across generations. Pretty cool to see. The goal is for it to be more widely accessible to kids as it’s quite hard to find these days. They haven’t yet announced when the channel is launching yet but we’ll keep our ear to the ground.

The Cat Report

Cheeks from Trash Cat Rescue
Enter Cheeks of Trash Cat Rescue. I have a soft spot for big chunky cats like Cheeks. His looks are uncanny to my childhood cat, Maverick. He’s a 7 year old boy that has seen some rough days. Clearly seen in his scars and missing ear. He may look rough but inside he’s a very sweet boy who loves scratches. He’s even recently learned that he has a voice and sometimes surprises himself when yelling for cat food. You can find out more about Cheeks here.
See Yinz next Tuesday
