Welcome back to Pittsburgh Introductions! The place where we introduce you to locals who are making an impact and building a real sense of community in our neighborhoods.

This edition’s Yinzer is Melanie LaMond of Love Carrick. Their mission is to love, promote, and help the community and residents of Carrick. Every month, they hold a community dinner to help seniors, single parent households and those that are economically distressed.

On top of the community dinners, they also distribute meal kits in partnership with the United Way, run an Angel Tree for Christmas, organize blood drives, hold holiday dinners for Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and help to organize meal trains.

They do a lot of really great community work for Carrick. Without further ado, meet Melanie:

If you’d like to introduce yourself to the community, you can take the questionnaire.

What’s the name of your organization?

Love Carrick

What made you decide to start this organization?

Love Carrick was started as a church but changed over to feeding people in ours and surrounding communities when we found out how many families were in need of help just to eat!

What excites you most about what you’re doing?

I love knowing that someone isn’t starving for just one day because we gave them food!

If you weren't working on this, what would you be doing instead?

Anything that helps children.

What's something that your neighbors would be surprised to learn about you?

I not only volunteer my time but also part of my own income to support our mission at Love Carrick.

Is there a business or project you'd like to take on if you had more time?

We are desperately in need of our own facility so that we can serve people even more than we already do, so I would be working on that happening for us!

Who are the people in the community that you respect or look up to the most?

Anyone and everyone who isn’t afraid to reach out for help and then turn around and help someone else! Paying it forward!

What businesses are your favorite in Pittsburgh?

Any mom and pop shops especially coffee shops!

What's your go-to restaurant right now?
What do you like to do in your free time?

I work 3 jobs so not much free time but when I do get the chance I love to be outdoors soaking up the sun and fresh air!

What local place do you think more people should know about?
If you had an out-of-town friend visiting for a day, where would you take them?

The gateway clipper and the point!

What's a small thing about Pittsburgh that brings you joy?

We really are very nice people who are very giving!

What would you tell someone who is thinking about moving to Pittsburgh?

It’s a beautiful city with loads of culture and history!
