Morning, Pittsburgh! This past weekend I saw that Neff Haus posted a mango sticky rice cloud so we made the last-minute mob out to Harmony to try it. When you see it come up on their Instagram, you’ve got to check it out!
Butterfat Gelato Is Now Open
I’m starting to think that Pittsburgh needs to get its flowers for being a hub of frozen dairy concoctions. Almost any borough, neighborhood, township you go to, you can find a damn good ice cream place. I think of Page’s, Neff Haus, Millie’s, Jeni’s, Winston’s, to name a few, and now you can add Butterfat to that list.
Lauren Brock just opened up her shop last Thursday on East Ohio Street on the North Side, a few doors down from Fig & Ash. A scientist and pharmacist by trade, she’s bringing that knowledge to making top-tier gelato. She started it as a hobby during Covid but turned it into a legit skill, winning the People’s Choice Award for her carrot cake gelato at the Gelato Festival World Masters in 2023.
Her opening day flavors were Double Vanilla Bean, Chocolate Stracciatella, Pistachio, Carrot Cake, Rosemary Brûlée, Raspberry Sorbetto, Mango Sorbetto, and Lemon Basil Sorbetto. It’ll be a seasonal rotation to keep ingredients fresh and in season. And on Sunday, these were her Sorbetto flavors:

If you’re a frozen dairy treat fan, you gotta stop by Butterfat!

With training camp getting started, it’s only right to do a little Steelers trivia. What was the original name of the Steelers when they were first founded?
Last Week’s Answer: 19,000 years
On The Market

The house featured in The Demon of Brownsville Road book is on the market. I am a lover of all things scary, spooky, and creepy. When I saw this show up, I told my fiancée we have to buy it (we can’t). I remember watching the Discovery Channel and TLC ghost dramatization shows about this house, so it hits me in the nostalgia.
Ghosts or demons aside, the house itself has some really gorgeous details. It has woodwork that you’d expect to see in a Victorian, and the 2nd floor balcony, which I assume is off the master, is one of my favorite parts of the house. You might be noticing a trend that I love an overlook. Check it out here.

Commercial Street Bridge Is Back Open
Anyone who frequents the Commercial Street Bridge for their commute can breathe a sigh of relief. It’s back open as of yesterday after getting finished a week ahead of schedule. They originally thought August 3rd would be the re-opening, but here we are. I love it when a plan comes together!

Bellevue’s Main Street Is Becoming a Foodie Paradise
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ran a piece on the growing food scene in Bellevue. The tie to the Prohibition era being a blight on the food scene wasn’t something I knew about. A number of the restaurants in Bellevue are ones that I see frequently on my foodie Instagram algorithm. My fiancée and I went to Revival on Lincoln for our anniversary last year, and it was fantastic. Haven Cafe has now been added to the list.
StormFreak
One of my favorite things I’ve discovered on Pittsburgh social media is StormFreak on Reddit. There is no one I trust more to get my weather from than them. Any time there’s a potential storm on the horizon, I run to Reddit to see what they’re saying. Here’s an excerpt from the latest post.

The Cat Report

Delilah from Nose 2 Tail Cat Rescue
Delilah came to us after showing up as a very pregnant stray under one of our volunteers porches. We are 100% certain she was dumped.
Thankfully, we were able to get her a spay appointment the very next day at Catnip Acres Clinic in Waynesburg. Instead of becoming a mom while she was still just a kitten herself, Delilah got the chance to simply be a kitten.
Did you know female cats can go into heat and become pregnant as early as 4 months old? They can have their first litter around 6 months old. Its one of the many reasons spaying is so important.
We estimate Delilah is maybe a year old, and she is as sweet as pie! She absolutely loves attention, is always ready to play, and so far has done well with the other cats she's met. With proper introductions, we think she'd do great in a home with another young feline friend. She definitely will need a home that is ready to give her all of the playtime and attention!
See Yinz next Tuesday
