Happy Tuesday! This last Saturday’s storm was a doozy that ended up raining/storming out a bunch of events. The good news is this weekend isn’t currently shaping up to be as stormy. We needed the rain, but we could’ve done without the crazy wind and tornado that popped up in Washington.

Pittsburgh’s New Dinosaur Fossil
Pittsburgh is on the world (dinosaur) stage! A paleontologist, Dr. Matt Lamanna, from our very own Carnegie Museum of Natural History, co-led a team that was digging at the Changma Basin, a site well known for avian dinosaur species.
What they found was not the typical avian fossils found at the site. For the FIRST TIME ever, they found a non-avian fossil which they’ve named Jian changmaensis. Now, for someone who loves dinosaurs (me), this is exciting news!
It gives paleontologists a look into the behavior of these animals that we didn’t previously know. They now know what was actually eating these bird-like dinosaurs. It only makes sense that you’d probably find a little scavenger dinosaur hanging out where a lot of birds are for an easy meal. Like a buffet of sorts.
The other thing that’s cool about this is it changes the paleontology community’s understanding of when and where microraptors lived. They had previously been found in northeastern China. And this is a younger fossil than has been found, showing that they lived longer than paleontologists originally thought. That timing also gives a glimpse into how birds likely evolved.
If you’re interested in checking this fossil out, you can see a replica of it during DinoFest at the Carnegie Museum on June 13th.

World Cup Watch Parties
We all know that we’re definitely a football city, a hockey city, and maybe one day, when Bob Nutting sells the team, back to a baseball city. But I’d also argue that we’re becoming a soccer city, too. The Riverhounds won their first championship last season and we’ve now got the Riveters who compete in the USL W League.
So, it’s only right that we put on some watch parties to celebrate the World Cup being hosted in the US. The World Cup is just a cool event that brings the world together for a few weeks in the summer every 4 years. This newsletter is all about community, and I love an event that can shrink the globe and help us all feel a little more like neighbors on our floating rock.
Here’s where you can watch World Cup matches live over the next few weeks:
F.N.B Stadium

On The Market
Eclectic. That’s the only way that I know how to describe this house. I promise you, and this is not clickbait, you would not at all expect to find this combination of bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen, and a backyard with a pool, in a house that looks like that on the outside.

What part of this house surprised you the most?
