Morning! Anyone else starting to get a little bit of an itch for fall? Not like full fall, but just a little taste of some crisp air. If not, you’re in luck, summer is still very much in full swing with a few different festivals going on this weekend.

Okay, that headline might be a little bit overstated but I think it’s directionally true. There’s a growing trend of people buying Polaroids and Kodak instant cameras again. And then there’s Camp Snap who is doing screen-free digital cameras. It’s coming from people really missing tangibility. It’s something I’ve been thinking a lot about recently.

You’re probably wondering what this has to do with our city. Well, I saw an article in the Pittsburgh City Paper over the weekend about Bodega Film Lab. They’re a film lab and retro clothing store rolled into one, and they capture the tangible vibe that I’ve been sensing lately.

They’re a great place to start if you’re looking to embark on your analog journey. Lots of people talk about them being super helpful and willing to help newbies out on how to get started - “It was my first time using a film camera and they walked me through all the essentials I needed to know to get started with it, recommended different film stocks and the uses of them, and generally were just super helpful, informative and generous with their time”.

In the article, the sense of community oozes throughout. They had to expand and change locations because the film lab business has been going so well. On top of the retail space, they’re also looking to expand their programming to have more in-person events. Reading it definitely gave me an itch to go further down this analog rabbit hole. I highly recommend you check out the article!

We’re back with another edition of Pittsburgh Introductions. I’m not married to this name, so if someone can think of something more creative and clever, please email me! Naming is not my strong suit.

This edition’s Yinzer is Melanie LaMond of Love Carrick. Their mission is to love, promote, and help the community and residents of Carrick. Every month, they hold a community dinner to help seniors, single-parent households, and those who are economically distressed.

On top of the community dinners, they also distribute meal kits in partnership with the United Way, run an Angel Tree for Christmas, organize blood drives, hold holiday dinners for Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and help to organize meal trains.

You probably know TWIN PINE from the space they share with Hot Haute Hot in the Strip District. They’re taking over another location but this time in Rockwell Park. If you’re not familiar, they’re a vintage shop with their own merch items as well. Vintage camping is how I would describe it and I love every inch of their space! See their new location at 7415 Thomas Blvd.

I’ve bought my fair share of office furniture and bedroom furniture from Wayfair over the years. Truthfully, I didn’t even know brick and mortar was in the cards for them. Apparently it is, and they’ll be opening at North Hills Village in 2027.

If you know me, you know that I love old architecture with character. I also love Appalachia, probably because it’s filled with character. I came across a woman’s account, which tells the stories of old Appalachia. This post popped up on my timeline about abandoned houses she’s found in her Appalachian travels. I just imagine the stories those homes could tell, the family memories they could share, if they could talk.
